Swordsman | Archer | Blacksmith | Mage | Ninja Swordsman Fighting Techniques: -Written by Narcism So you've decided you've want to be a Swordsman? This guide will touch on the various eases and difficulties of fighting other classes, and well as doing the most they can in each Game Mode. These guide have been written from extensive experience, so you can do the best you can as soon as you jump into the game. When building your Swordsman, you've either ended up with a great Combo, a great Grab or both. You'll want to use those effectively as you can, as well use your high defense to your advantage. Character vs. Character Overall How you play against each class depends on the situation. Is it a duel? Is it a Deathmatch? Golem Wars? I'll explain how situation should be approached. In most duels (1v1), you should always play as defensively as you possibly can (blocking, jumping around). The more you go on the offence, the more you will find yourself making mistakes or missing, only to have your opponent move in and combo you or grab you. Always wait for your opportunity and move in. Be wary of each classes unblockable attacks as you will need to watch out for those. All classes in this game can be played by waiting for another characters high delay move to do their highest damage attack. Swordman: In 1v1, defense is key. Try not to get into the habit of constantly blocking, if the other Swordsman is halfway intelligent and notices you're block-heavy, he will use LMB+LMB+RMB and the last swing can't be blocked, and you'll end up spinning. Be wary of Jump Attackers and if they jump over you, always be ready to spin around and face them while they're in-flight or you'll get smacked from behind. Single swinging will yield better results than frantically clicking your mouse button. As well, the Single Swing -> Grab combo is very effective if you get it down pat. Be wary of grabbers, keep moving, and get ready to get them if they miss. In a multiplayer scenario, wait for the right moment to combo them, if they are really unaware of your presence, be ready at the end of their combo with a Special Attack (hold RMB). Archer: In 1v1, Archers will be a challenge, not because they can destroy you, but because they will run away and jump away at the very sight of you, waiting for you to dash or do a long delay move to put a few arrows into you. Either approach them while blocking (optimal since there range attacks can be blocked) or jump towards them without a pattern, simply zigzagging will let the other archer figure out what you're doing and you'll end up being hit. When you're close enough, wait for them to shoot an arrow (decent delay) or just go for the single swing + grab combo. Dashing isn't the best way to fight an Archer, it won't work in higher levels, and if there's the least bit of lag, you'll end up missing anyways, only to find yourself with 2 arrows in your body. In higher player games, if they don't see you, it's just peachy, go up behind them, and combo the jesus out of them. Blacksmith This will be a fun fight. In 1v1, treat them like other Swordsmen. ie. Defense-Heavy. Wait for mistakes, don't be the agressor unless you're sure you'll hit. Keep your distance if they're a heavy user of their Special Attack. The damage is done if you're standing on the ground in the circular radius, so either keep jumping, or keep your distance. Be wary of grabbers, keep moving, and get ready to get them if they miss. If they miss, their spinning-attack has lots of delays at the end for you to squeeze in, just be sure not to sneak in to prematurely, or you'll get a hammer across the face. Mage Easy character to fight 1v1. They have high delay attacks and/or high preparation attacks. Unless they decide to use their staff and MAYBE grab you, you should be alright. Chase them down (you run faster) and jump as erratically as you can so you don't get hit by the Ice Pillars. Approach them as you would an Archer. Ninja One of the hardest opponents for a Swordsman. You'll often feel overwhelmed by them but it's okay, keep your cool. Play them similarly to Blacksmith's and Swordsmen except try to get a little more on the offensive. The Swing + Grab combo is still a good one, and jump attacking. If you play too defensive, they'll just run all over you. Most of them are grabbers so be wary of this. As well, they will often use the Swing + Grab and rarely a 2, 3 or 4 hit combo, so be sure to block the first swing and swing right back. General Tips: Deathmatch Every character's strategy in Deathmatch should be kill-stealing. See someone's that might be at low health? Stand right behind them and use your Special Attack or jump in and start combo'ing them. Death's don't matter in Deathmatch, so take as many risks as you like. Also, Archers and Mages are great targets to combo as they usually stand still. If you see any grabbing Ninja, be ready for them at the end of their grab with a Special Attack. General Tips: Team Deathmatch Same as Deathmatch, except you should also help beat people off your lower armor teammates. General Tips: Golem Wars The worst thing you can do in Golem Wars is go for the Golden Golem. Why? The other team's melee characters will most likely be there, so you'll get hit by their stray combos, as well, you'll have a better chance of getting hit by stray enemy arrows, ice pillars, and Ninja stars. For that reason, I suggest you dedicate all your time killing and disabling the other team's Ninja, or Mage, or Archer, in that order. Ninja's will do the most damage to the Golem, more than you will, so if you can keep the Ninja from using the Crouch-Shot, you would have helped your team accomplish a lot more than attacking the Golem Golem. The less time you spend in the middle of the fight, the less likely you will die, which is very important in Golem Wars as you only live once per round. Of course, if your teammate has the Golden Sword, do your best to block arrows and knockdown the Swordsman and Blacksmith on the other team. Dashing or Jump Attacking work best here. I personally enjoy the Swing+Grab combo because even if you're swing misses, you won't have a gaping hole at the end where you can be countered. I hope this helped, if you have any problems, feel free to PM me or post on the forums. -Narcism
