Mage Fighting Techniques:
-Written by Citizen
This guide will discuss the fighting techniques for the mage. By the time you've finished reading the guide, you should have everything you need to know to be effective against all player types and be a real asset to your team.
Mages are traditionally limited in their capabilites to solo other characters, but there are a few tricks that can help you along the way. In team games, mages are particularly lethal due to their AOE's and knockdown abilities.
Mage vs. Swordsman
- Swordsmen are probably the most difficult foe to solo as a mage. The best strategy is to avoid them as much as possible. If you have no choice but to fight, jump around making yourself as difficult of a target as possible. Wait for him to beocme impatient and deliver an attack. When (hopefully) he misses, execute a counter attack. Always begin jumping around after attacking. Forgetting or becoming impatient will probably mean your death.
Mage vs. Archer
- Archers aren't incredibely difficult to defeat. For the most part, Archers will run from you, unless they rely heavily on melee attacks, which is pretty rare. All you have to do is run at them in a zig-zag pattern and either grab or ice projection them when you get the chance. Attempting to FB archers usually fails because archers can fire faster and more accurately than FB can deliver.
Mage vs. Blacksmith
- Blacksmiths tend to use lots of high-delay attacks, so make youself a tough target and counter-attack when you get the chance. Be sure to use projections whenever the Blacksmith is attacking an ally.
Mage vs. Mage
- When fighting other mages, I find it most effective to simply strafe around, wait for them to miss, and coutner attack with either melee, grab, or projection. Other than that, make sure that you heal youself whenever possible due to the fact that your opponent is probably healing as well. Run away and heal if you have to.
Mage. vs. Ninja
- Ninjas are probably one of the most difficult enemies to defeat solo, but they are easy to predict. Most ninjas wait until you use a high-delay attack and then deliver a grip attack. When soloing a ninja, be sure to only use single attacks unless it hits and only use projection if you know it will deliver.

Deathmatch:
- On deathmatches, you'll either want to stay back and send off fire balls, projection busy fighters, or go active and start gripping unsuspecting targets. Deathmatch favours those that kill quickly regardless of deaths, so try not to camp too much if you choose to go that route.
Team Deathmatch:
- In team deathmatches, your main goal should be to stay back and deliver massive damage while your team keeps the opposition busy. One key support role that the mage can play is an anti-focus by using projection or fire ball when the enemies group up and focus a team mate.
Golem
- In golem matches, the mage can become very, very important. In almost all situations, enemies will be grouped up, either attacking the Golden Golem or your own. In both cases, using ice projection and fire ball for AOE damage will be the best bet. When targeting the Golden Golem specifically, try to get to a remote area and use the range to your advantage.
Usually, I prefer to be as passive as I can and wait for people to make mistakes. I usually spam ice projection while people use long delay skills or are busy attacking other people. Using the normal fire ball attack to knockdown and damage multiple enemies while they are grouped up is very effective. Mage Chaos is particularly impressive and powerful, so using that to your maximum ability is very important. Check out the Chaos Guide for the details on that.
